TWILIGHT VISIONS

(due to my impending trip to nyc at the end of april, I feel as though many of my posts will begin to coincide with people, happenings, & events in that general area. This show looks beautiful.)

Twilight Visions: Surrealism, Photography, and Paris.

Showing January 29th – May 9th at the International Center of Photography

"Paris was a city of fantasy and chance encounters for Surrealist artists of the 1920s and '30s. During this period of unprecedented social and cultural transformation, photography played a dramatic new role in both avant-garde practice and mass culture. In their works, photographers such as Jacques-André Boiffard, Brassaï, Ilse Bing, André Kertész, Germaine Krull, Dora Maar, and Man Ray used fragmentation, montage, unusual viewpoints, and various technical manipulations to expose the disjunctive and uncanny aspects of modern urban life. In Twilight Visions: Surrealism, Photography, and Paris, guest curator Terry Lichtenstein has assembled over 150 photographs, films, books, periodicals, and Surrealist ephemera to show how real and imaginary versions of Paris were constructed through photographic images." –ICP

GUNPOWDER

Contemporary Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang was recently featured on FECAL FACE and his work is absolutely amazing. He uses things he collects in nature like sticks, moss and rocks to create the coloring effect after the gunpowder is lit. refreshing originality i think

i dont know how else to put it so i guess ill just say it...this man has created a lot of cool shit over the past twenty-some years. his website features a great chronology of his shown work. i do however enjoy his work with fire the best.

JLG five year anniversary group exhibition

personally i have been devoted to New York's Jonathan Levine Gallery since 2005. It's both my homepage and my jumping off point for when in skip happily through the internet searching for newer and greater artists. WELL, Mr. Jonathan Levine and his arsenal of talented artists are currently hosting a five year anniversary group exhibition..which sadly will end a few weeks before glace and i grace New York with our presence, so i will just have to admire it through the windows of the interweb(but we will be able to catch Eric White, Nicola Verlato, Fulvio di Piazza and Date Farmers)

check out this video posted on their website of artist Doze Green at work. What a silly fella

Spankin' new Camille Rose Garcia !

LA based artist Camille Rose Garcia (the artist who created the work that now graces my right forearm.. permanently) has re-illustrated the beloved story, Alice in Wonderland. I wish real life was this creepy.

HOWEVER! This news isn't even the best part...Camille Rose Garcia will be visiting Seattle for a signing of her new book on March 13th at Roq La Rue gallery. Ahh, would it be tacky to have her sign my arm as well?

Safeco Insurance donates $3.5 million in art

The Seattle-based insurance company is donating 840 pieces, worth about $3.5 million, to the Washington Art Consortium. (The Whatcom Museum and Western's Gallery will benefit from this donation too!) Today is a great day in the Northwest art world, especially knowing that hundreds of pieces by local artists will remain in the state.
